En litteraturstudie om hvordan sykepleier kan legge til rette for god kommunikasjon til personer med demens på sykehjem.

Abstract

Problemstilling: «Hvordan kan sykepleier legge til rette for god kommunikasjon til personer med demens på sykehjem?»

Bakgrunn: Det er antatt at antall personer med demens i Norge vil øke kraftig fram mot år 2050. Demens rammer blant annet evnen til å kunne kommunisere. For personer som bor på sykehjem, ligger ansvaret for å opprettholde kommunikasjonen i stor grad på andre. Vi mennesker ønsker å bli sett, hørt og forstått, også personer med demens.

Hensikt: Hensikten med denne studien er å belyse hvordan sykepleier kan legge til rette for god kommunikasjon med personer som har demens på sykehjem.

Metode: En systematisk litteraturstudie inspirert av Forsberg og Wengström (2017) ble gjennomført for å identifisere, vurdere og analysere forskning om temaet. Relevant faglitteratur og forskningsartikler (fem kvalitative og tre kvantitative) ble brukt for å samle inn data.

Resultat: Analyseprosessen resulterte i fire kategorier som presenterer ulike måter sykepleier kan tilrettelegge god kommunikasjon på; 1) personsentrert tilnærming, 2) kommunikasjonsstrategier, 3) sykepleiers kunnskap og egenskaper og 4) opplæring av helsepersonell.

Konklusjon: Sykepleier kan bruke en personsentrert tilnærming, kommunikasjonsstrategier, kunnskapen sin og sine egenskaper, samt delta på opplæring for å tilrettelegge god kommunikasjon til personer med demens på sykehjem.

Title: “How can nurses facilitate good communication to persons with dementia in nursing homes?” Background: It is assumed that the number of persons with dementia in Norway will increase by the year 2050. Dementia affects, among other things, the ability to communicate. For persons living in nursing homes, the responsibility for maintaining communication is largely on others. As humans we want to be seen, heard and understood, this also includes people with dementia.

Aim of study: The purpose of this study is to illuminate how nurses can facilitate good communication for persons with dementia in nursing homes.

Method: A systematic literature study, inspired by Evans (2002), was conducted to identify, consider and analyze what research tells us about the topic of this study. Relevant literature and research articles (5 qualitative and three quantitative) was used to collect data.

Results: The analysis resulted in four categories that tells us different ways nurses can facilitate good communication: 1) personcentered approach, 2) communication strategies, 3) nurse’s knowledge and abilities and 4) caregiver training.

Conclusion: Nurses can use a personcentered approach, communication strategies, their knowledge and abilities, and also participate in training to facilitate communication to persons with dementia in nursing homes.
