I tillegg inneholder oppgaven to forskningsspørsmål.
Abstract: In this master thesis I explore how three different textbooks present what I have defined as «the subject of speech» in the Norwegian Subject. The study combines features of critical discourse analysis and qualitative content analysis. The thesis targets the following research problem: How is the subject of speech presented in three different textbooks for the Norwegian Subject? In addition, the thesis contains two research questions. On the first question I examine how different textbooks relate to the research traditions of dialectology and sociolinguistics. On the second question I look at how the various textbooks manage the curriculum's guidelines for learning about «the subject of speak». The research problem and the research questions are answered by doing a qualitative content analysis as part of a larger critical discourse analysis. The approaches to the methods are particularly inspired by Grønmo (2016), Fairclough (1995, 2003, 2010) and Skrede (2017). Dialectological and sociolinguistic theory has been important in the analysis, and I have relied on theory and terms from Mæhlum and Røyneland (2016), Skjekkeland (2005), Quist (2017), Hårstad (2010, 2019), Mæhlum (2007) and Hårstad, Londahl & Mæhlum (2017) in the process of separating the different research traditions from each other. For theory about the curriculum, I have relied on Engelsen (2006), Andreassen (2017) and Goodlad (1979). The analysis shows that the dialectological tradition still have a strong position in the textbooks' presentation of the subject. The link between language and place is strong, and social linguistic variation is expressed to a lesser extent. I also point out that textbooks reproduce the various notions of languages that exist in society. The analysis shows that the textbooks relate to the aims in the curriculum in terms of content. However, I point out that many of the topics are devoted little attention, and therefore have some limitations with regard to students achieving the competance aims. In addition, I point out that the textbooks to a lesser extent meet the purpose of the subject, as described initially in the curriculum. The assignment points to some problematic aspects of the textbooks, and these illustrate some didactic challenges in the classroom. In conclusion, I also point to the upcoming curriculum in the Norwegian Subject.
