The aim of this thesis has been to explore and test different concepts to better understand the development and use of workplaces. It has also been to further develop one of the concepts to be used to early involve users in the development process and give guidelines for further research. This thesis is written in collaboration with Tegn_3. Tegn_3 is an interdisciplinary architectural firm located in Trondheim. They work within multiple disciplines, there amongst office space development. Their main problem is that they feel their clients do not fully understand the concepts being presented to them, and therefore are choosing ones that, in tegn_3’s opinion, are not the best fit for the them. This thesis draws upon different types of design methodology, literary review and psychology to explore and understand the office space development process and the stakeholders involved. Furthermore, it explores different types of prototyping and testing to develop the concepts. This thesis developes five guidelines to help with further development of user involvement and research, and the theory that ground them. It also contains multiple prototypes developed during the project, and the experiences gained from testing them. Lastly, it contains a game based on the five outlined guidelines. The game tries to bridge the communication gap between the end user and the architect and to help start the discussion on a higher level.
