Digitale kanaler effektiviserer hverdagen: En studie av kommunikasjon i to elite- håndballag

Abstract

Formålet med denne oppgaven er å undersøke hvordan to elite-håndballag kommuniserer og hvilke årsaker som påvirker kommunikasjonen. Det belyses ulike sider ved bruken av kommunikasjon og gir et innblikk i tanker og ønsker om bruk av kommunikasjonskanaler. Hvilken påvirkning har en trener knyttet til dette? Oppgavens problemstilling er dermed:

«Hvordan anvender to elite-håndballag kommunikasjonskanaler og hvilke ulike årsaker påvirker kommunikasjonen?»

Det er lite forskning på hvordan digital kommunikasjon fungerer i håndball, men ved å bruke teorier som handler om kommunikasjonsprosesser, internkommunikasjon, informasjonsteknologi og kommunikasjonskultur, kan man trekke sammenhenger i lys av dette. Datainnsamling er gjort med bruk av metodetriangulering, hvor jeg gjennomførte en innholdsanalyse av Facebook-gruppene til de to lagene for å styrke dybdeintervjuene og analysen ut i fra dette.

Oppgavens hovedfunn er at bruk av kommunikasjon på de to håndballagene er både lik og ulik. De møtes til trening nesten hver dag, men ønsker at informasjon skal kommuniseres både muntlig og digitalt. Muntlig kommunikasjon er viktig, men alle spillere syns likevel at digitale kommunikasjonskanaler er med på effektivisering og planlegging av hverdagen. Herrelaget og Damelaget har vært preget av endringer. Herrelaget gjorde tidligere evalueringer av kommunikasjonen, og måtte gjør endringer. Det resulterte i at spillerne har opplevd mer åpenhet og ærlighet. Det er likevel mye enveiskommunikasjon på de digitale kanalene, spesielt på Facebook fra Trener Sondre. På Damelaget har de fått ny trener, Trener Arild. Han har tatt med seg spesielt digitale endringer, med appene WhatsApp og Google Kalender. Det har ført til bedre kortsiktig og langsiktig planlegging. Spillerne forklarer også at han svarer fort og er forståelsesfull. Effektiv og god kommunikasjon mellom spillere og trenere kan ha en positiv konsekvens i form av at begge parter kan utføre sine roller på best mulig måte. Det kan også være med på å skape bedre toveiskommunikasjon og faktorer som tillit og gruppekohesjon mellom trenere og spillere.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine how two elite handball teams communicate internally and investigate the selected communication approaches. Various useage of communication are highlighted in order to gain greater insight into thoughts and wishes about the use of communication channels. What influence does a coach have? This thesis research question is:

“How do two elite handball teams use communication channels and what different causes affect the communication?”

There is little research on how digital communication works in handball, but by using theories that relate to the communication process, internal communication, information technology and communication culture, one can draw a context in light of this. The empirical data is a triangulation of methods, where I conducted a content analysis of the Facebook groups of the two teams to strengthen the depth interviews and the analysis.

The main findings disclosed that the use of communication on the two handball teams is both equal and different. They meet for training almost every day but want information to be both communicated verbally and digitally. Oral communication is important, but the players however thinks that digital communication channels are involved in improving the efficiency and planning in the everyday life. The men ́s team and the woman ́s team have been embossed by changes. Earlier the men ́s team did an evaluation of the communication and had to make some changes. There is still a lot of one-way communication on the digital channels, especially from coach Sondre on Facebook. The women ́s team they got a new coach, coach Arild. He has especially brought digital changes, with the apps WhatsApp and Google Calendar. This has led to a better short-term and long-term planning. The players also explain that he responds quickly and that he is sympathetic. Effective and good communication between players and coaches can have a positive impact so both parties can perform their roles in the best possible way. It can also help create better two-way communication and factors such as trust and group cohesion between coaches and players.
