Denne bacheloroppgaven er skrevet for Horisont Renovasjon AS.
This bachelor thesis is written for Horisont Renovasjon AS. This research paper is exploring the issue of whether Horisont Renovasjon AS can improve route 0504 in Oestre Toten municipality, based on route planning. In this paper, we have used triangulation of methods, which means we have combined qualitative and quantitative methods. We have conducted an observation combined with semi-structured interview and calculation of economic variables, to create solid data for the analysis. We have used relevant theory for route planning to strengthen the data collection. The theory concerns Vehicle Routing Problem, Traveling Salesmen Problem and graph theory. In addition, we have used ArcGIS Online as an analyzing tool in the elaboration of alternative routes. The result is two alternative solutions to our main issue, based on kilometers. One of the solutions is a result we have gathered from ArcGIS, while the other solution is an alternative with common collection containers to reduce even more kilometers. In our opinion, the current route is well executed and organized. We have come to the conclusion that there is improvement potential on route 0504 based on route planning. Though the route from ArcGIS reduces the total cost with a small share, we still believe that this alternative should be tested to see its maximum potential. The alternative route with common collection containers we see as a long-term solution, that must be processed further, to see if it is profitable. There are also several preconditions that must be solved before this solution can become a reality.
