Catalyst plays an important role in biomass conversion. The present work will deal with preparation, characterization and application in the cellulose conversion to chemicals. The work will focus on the functionalization of carbon materials to introduce the acidic groups as the active site in cellulose hydrolysis. The effects of the properties of carbon materials, type and amount of functional groups on cellulose hydrolysis will be investigated. In addition, the screened carbon based catalysts will be applied in the hydrogenolysis of the cellulose to diols combing Ni-ZnO based catalysts with a aiming to enhancing the hydrolysis step in the cellulose conversion. The project will be analysed by HPLC-MS and GC-MS in NorBioLab.en
