Studies indicate that the productivity in the construction industry has declined the last 10 to 15 years. The lack of progress can be a consequence of inefficient workflow working with new technologies in old work processes. Parametric modelling is a modelling approach that has recently gained much attention. Historically, parametric modelling has primarily been used for specialized tasks such as form optimization for complex structures. However, can a parametric approach still be viable for ordinary buildings? This paper examines the possibility of establishing a FEM in Autodesk Robot as well as a BIM in Autodesk Revit of a structural system for a hypothetical building (the 'test building') generated by Autodesk Dynamo. The constructed algorithm does this successfully by using a range of different input that defines the outline of the building, the axis of the structural system, dimensions of the elements, and the constraints that dictate the foundations and span directions of floors.en
