The main task of this thesis is to evaluate the capacity of a novel modelling approach for aluminium casting to describe the behaviour and failure of an aluminium rim under dynamic loadings. The thesis work will involve the design of a test rig for the dynamic testing of aluminium rims. A typical aluminium rim supplied by Audi will be used. The kicking machine available at the Department of Structural Engineering will be a central tool for the development of the component tests.en
