Smart energy meters, so-called AMR meters, were installed in all Norwegian households during 2018. The AMR meter has a HAN port for potential third-party products. The HAN port continuously streams information about the current energy consumption in the household. The purpose of this assignment is to analyse which third-party products that is in the market. Further, the purpose is to examine the consequences of these products, both for the consumer and the network company. The most interesting market players in the HAN product market has been asked to see what they are offering today and what is coming. NVE has announced a necessary change in the existing price model for energy invoicing, which means the future price model will be a governing parameter in terms of coming products. Different categories of products have been implemented on three different cases by use of a power grid simulation software and from that, the necessary grid upgrades are found. Costs for upgrades are found by use of standard prices for equipment together with the estimated manhours. An average consumer with an active system which controls the electrical appliances is considered to do an estimate of the customer savings. Simplifications are made to estimate the energy consumption pattern and corresponding load shifting. The costs for different price models are calculated in a spreadsheet. 15 to 20 different companies offer HAN products today or are planning to offer in near future. Several of these products only give information about the current energy usage, making the user to decide actual adjustments in the consumption. Other products are automatic control systems and take physically control of the energy consumption based on user preferences. Case studies show that implementation of HAN products for automatic control of the energy consumption most certainly will have a positive effect to the network company in terms of saved investments on equipment and cable upgrades. The consumer savings of having a HAN product connected to their AMR meter depends on the future price modelling. The model «measured power» will potentially give the greatest savings.
