Når livet ikke har mening

Abstract

Bakgrunn: Hvert år tar rundt 80 eldre mennesker i Norge livet sitt, og det er stor grunn til å anta at det forekommer mørketall i selvmord blant eldre. Videre er selvmord blant eldre et tema som får lite oppmerksomhet i utdanningen til helsepersonell.

Hensikt: Studiens hensikt er å bevisstgjøre sykepleiere om forebygging av selvmord blant eldre, og på den måten øke kunnskapsgrunnlaget.

Metode: Systematisk litteraturstudie.

Resultat: Resultat viser viktigheten av relasjonsbygging og påvirkningskraften sykepleiers holdninger har på relasjonen. Videre viser resultatet til kunnskap om selvmord, eldre som pasientgruppe og individet, samt rammefaktorene: tid, kompetanse og kontinuitet.

Konklusjon: Studien viser at ved gode holdninger og kunnskap kan sykepleier bygge en god relasjon til den selvmordsnære eldre. Gjennom relasjonen vil pasienten få tillit til sykepleier og via dette kan man ha samtaler om de tyngre tankene. Videre gir dette mulighet for å bygge felles fundament med pasientens ønsker og behov i fokus. Ved at sykepleier investerer tid og møter den eldre med empati kan det føre at smerten lindres og den eldre øyner håp.

Background: Each year nearly 80 elderly people in Norway commit suicide, but there is great reason to assume that there are undocumented suicides among the elderly. Furthermore, suicide among the elderly is a topic which receives little attention in the education of health personnel.

Aim: The aim of the study is to raise awareness among nurses about the prevention of suicide among the elderly, thereby increasing the knowledge base.

Method: Systematic review study.

Results: The results show the importance of building a relationship and the influence nurses' attitudes have on the relationship. The results also refer to knowledge about suicide, the elderly and the individual, as well as the framework factors time, competence and continuity.

Conclusion: With a good attitude and knowledge, nurses can build a good relationship with the suicidal elderly. Through this relationship, the patient can gain trust in the nurse and together they can talk about their heavy thoughts. Furthermore, this gives the opportunity to build a common foundation, based on the patient’s wishes and needs. By investing time and meeting the elderly with emphaty, the nurse can help to relive the pain and give new hope to the suicidal elderly.
