Objective: The aim of this literature review is to find what challenges children with epilepsy face. Methods: This thesis is based on a systematic literature review consisting of literature chosen by ourselves and eight research articles found through a systematic literature search. The research articles were analyzed using Evans method of analysis (2002). Results: Children with epilepsy have little knowledge about their disease, and this makes them anxious. They find it complicated and they find that others have little knowledge about their condition. It is hard for them to be open about their disease as they experience social challenges and the feeling of being different from what is normal. As a result, they avoid discussing the subject. Some feel different, are embarrassed and scared to be teased. Side effects from the epilepsy and medications make them feel tired. They find that their parents are being over protecting and give them restrictions when it comes to activities. They experience discrimination. Conclusion: Children with epilepsy have a need for support and better knowledge of their condition in order to experience the disease less challenging. Nurses should be educative, give information and help children comprehend knowledge about their situation in such way that they feel they can master the challenges they face.
