Sykepleie ved språkvansker etter hjerneslag.
Abstract
Background: Aphasia is a failure in speech function, wich can be divided into two main categories, expressive (finding words) and impressive (understanding words). Verbal- and nonverbal is the mostcommon kinds of communication. Communicating with patients affected by aphasia can be challengingbecause they have trouble understanding and using words. Therefore nurses need knowledge and interest tointeract with patients. An alliance between nurse and patient forms a good foundation in communication. Inhospital patients affected by aphasia will be in a vulnerable position because they meet staff who do notknow the patients habits and needs. Nurses must therefore provide security and encourage coping with thesituation. Inadequate communication between staff and patient may be a threat to welfare and patientsafety.Aims: The aim of this study is to find out how communication can be improved between nurse and patientsuffering from aphasiaMethod: This study is a literature review, databases was search for relevant scientific articles. Academicresearch literature and literature from curriculum is also used. Seven scientific articles are analysed andpresented. Further are findings from academic research literature, literature from curriculum and the sevenselected articles discussed. Results: Findings show the importance of: (1) creating an alliance, (2) sufficient time spent and (3)education of nurses to achieve good communication. Using closed questions did not assist the patientslanguage development. Communication aids and education had a positive impact on interactions betweennurse and patient. The use of communication plans developed by a speech therapist facilitatescommunication for both nurse and patient. Conclusion: The use of communication plans, aids and early guidance for staff helps to improvecommunication between patient and nurse. Implementation of communication plans is recommended, thisway nurses have guidelines when communicating with the patient. This requires improvement in patients tobe documented in medical record. This way progress in patients can be seen.
