Purpose: This bachelor’s thesis was intended to investigate whether the information patients receive about radiation prior to CT examinations is in accordance with the information patients wants. Method: A systematic literature study was conducted with document analysis. The document analysis was intended to investigate which information patients received before a CT examination from hospitals in Helse Midt-Norge. The literature study was intended to investigate patient's wishes for information in relation to diagnostic imaging. Result: The results from the document analysis showed that the patients did not receive information about radiation prior to the CT examination. The literature showed clear indications that patients wanted information about radiation. In the results we saw that the patient´s knowledge and understanding of radiation in relation with imaging is allegedly low, and that the patients feel under- informed. We have also seen that dissemination of information in hospitals can be suboptimal. Conclusion: Our results are vague about patients request for radiation information. Patients knowledge may have shown a greater impact on the results than we had foreseen. There is also a lot that suggests that information about radiation is not the information that patients consider most important. We cannot conclude whether there is a correlation between the information the patients receive about radiation prior to a CT examination and the information patients wants.
