Abstract

In this thesis I will study what Rolling Stone magazine focuses on in their articles about Janis Joplin. I have read through many academic texts, and different articles in Rolling Stone and other magazines to figure this out. To not only figure out what they focus on, but also why they focus on what they focus on, I am going to investigate how the rock criticism was, and how it was for Joplin to be a woman in the mandominated world of rock. The gender roles in the 60s are quite divided, but Joplin broke some stereotypes of the female vocalist. In this thesis I will also look at how this characterizes the articles about her.
