Omsorg ved livets slutt

Abstract

Bakgrunn: Flere mennesker ønsker å få tilbringe siste fase av livet hjemme, og få dø i eget hjem. Man kan lure på hvilken betydning det kan ha for eldre pasienter som er i livets sluttfase å få tilbringe siste del av livet hjemme, og å få dø i eget hjem. Samt se på hva dette betyr for helsepersonell og pårørende.

Hensikt: Hensikten med denne oppgaven var å finne ut hvilken betydning det kan ha for eldre kreftsyke pasienter som er i en palliativ fase, samt pårørende og helsepersonell, at pasienten får dø hjemme.

Metode: I denne oppgaven har jeg brukt litteratursøk, med søk i databasene Google Scholar, Swemed+, Idunn, og Oria, med avgrensede søkemetoder. Det ble da valgt ut fem forskningsartikler som har blitt analysert og presentert i en søkematrise. Søkene blir presentert i en søkelogg.

Resultat: Det var både meninger for og imot når det kommer til hjemmedød. Helsepersonell må ha nok kunnskap og kompetanse rundt denne fasen. Både pasient og pårørende må respekteres.

Konklusjon: For de fleste pasienter, pårørende og helsepersonell har det stor betydning at pasienten får tilbringe siste fase av livet hjemme, og at pasienten får dø i sitt eget hjem. Med god kommunikasjon, tverrfaglig samarbeid og tilrettelegging kan pasientens ønske om hjemmedød bli oppfylt.

Background: People do often want to spend the last time of their life at home, and to die in their own home. We can wonder what significance this may have for older patients who are in the final stages of life, as well as we look at what this means for relatives and the healthcare professionals.

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment was to find out what significance it may have for elderly cancer patients who are in a palliative phase to die in their own homes. As well as to the relatives and the health professionals.

Methods: In this assignment I have used literature searches, with searches in databases like Google Scholar, Swemed+, Idunn and Oria, with limited search methods. Five research articles were then selevted, analyzed and presented in a search matrix. The searches are presented in a search log.

Results: It was both positive and negative thoughts around home death. Healthcare professionals must have enough knowledge and competence about this phase in life. Both patient and relatives must be respected in this phase.

Conclusion: For most patients, relatives and healthcare professionals, it is important that the patient spends the last phase of their life at home and dies in their own home. With good communication, interdisciplinary collaboration and facilitation, the patient’s desire for home death can be fulfilled.
