The bachelor's thesis looks at the mathematics examination for tenth grade held in spring of 2017. The research question is: In what ways are the written mathematics examination and the curriculum of the subject in accordance with each other, with emphasis on the mathematical competence model and functional competence? The aim of the study in the bachelor’s thesis is to examine the written mathematics examination and which mathematical competencies that are tested in the light of the curriculum for the subject. An assessment is made of the examination as a whole as well as an in-depth study related to one of the main areas of the curriculum called "Functions". Niss and Jensen's eight mathematical competencies (2002) are used as a theoretical framework for the study. The method used in the study is document analysis. One qualitative study has been carried out with three primary parts: 1) exploration of the written mathematics examination for the tenth grade in spring of 2017 (the Directorate of Education, 2017b, 2017c) in accordance with the curriculum in mathematics (the Directorate of Education, 2013), 2) exploration of the mathematical examination in accordance with Niss and Jensen's eight mathematical competencies (2002) and 3) analysis of examination questions within the curriculum's main area "Functions". The most important findings are that there is a good correlation between the curriculum and the written mathematics examination for the tenth grade in spring of 2017, and that compliance among other things is based on the fact that the examination has the curriculum as a basis for the design, and that all the eight mathematical competencies are covered by the mathematics examination.
