The purpose of this task was to investigate how e-commerce has affected customers' purchasing behaviour and how this new form of trade has affected the development in the shopping centre industry. We were particularly interested in how this has affected the development and future investments for the shopping centres under the Olav Thon Group. In the first part of the thesis we collected relevant theory, we then collected secondary and primary data that could help us gain an understanding of the development of retail, e-commerce and purchasing behaviour in Norway. The study was conducted with a qualitative method using relevant articles and reports, and finally using an in-depth interview with development manager Dag Helge Setekleiv in Olav Thon Group. Setekleiv has knowledge of the shopping centres under Thon at a management level and could therefore give us a unique insight into their shopping centres and their plans for future development and investments. Furthermore, in the thesis we have discussed how the data collection is related to our current problem, so that we could have a holistic overview of the topic. Finally, various improvement measures were presented, which the shopping centres can also implement to steel themselves for the future. The findings during the assignment were then presented in a conclusion for how e-commerce's influence has affected the shopping centres’ development.
