dc.description.abstractOppgaven søker å finne koblinger mellom tekstiler og samfunn, minner/fortiden, og mennesker. Den har fokus på tre tekster: Silas Marner av George Eliot, "Abby's Year in Lowell" fra The Lowell Offering, og "Everyday Use" av Alice Walker. Det er fokus på å finne måten tekstilene fungerer som virkemidler og hvordan de påvirker karakterene og assisterer handlingen i å skape disse koblingene. Oppgaven trekker inn nyttig historie om tekstiler, industrialisering, og om tekstilfabrikkene i Lowell, Massachusetts.
dc.description.abstractThe thesis seeks to find the connections between textiles and communities, memories and the past, and people. It focuses on three works of fiction: Silas Marner by George Eliot, "Abby's Year in Lowell" from The Lowell Offering, and "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker. The focus is on finding the way in which textiles function in the texts, how they affect the characters, and how they assist the plot in creating these connections. The thesis also mentions useful history on textiles, industrialization, and about the Lowell Mills in Massachusetts.
