In this master thesis, the use of an isosurface extraction technique on binary 3D x-ray micro-tomographic images of paper fibres has been examined. Traditionally, volume rendering has been used to visualise the images. In this report, an application which uses the discrete marching cubes algorithm has been implemented. Discrete marching cubes processes the input image and creates a set of triangles representing the surface of the paper fibres. The paper fibres can now be easily visualised using OpenGL, and serve as input to more advanced visualising techniques, including physically based light simulation.nb_NO
