This is a study of the regenerable Elsorb Process which is an eco-friendly buffer system for SO2 recovery from gas streams. The buffer system consists of an aqueous solution of Na2HPO4, NaH2PO4 and Na2SO4 formed from solvent degradation and SO3 in the feed gas. The off-gas is contacted by the absorption liquid to give a SO2 loaded solution, which is regenerated by evaporation (temperature/concentration shift) or steam stripping (temperature shift). The optimal regeneration method and buffer composition has to be evaluated to match the process conditions.nb_NO
