The Norwegian Public Roads Administration as a government agency has a large literature collection dealing with concrete repair, but the literature spread in several places. The literature is very comprehensive and divided into manuals, standards, reports and papers. There is also a large digital database, BRUTUS, but it has some reduced access. The average age of employees in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has been gradually lower, and some of the employees due to some limited practical experience can have challenges in its tasks. Building managers, including myself, in certain situations may have to follow their own practical experience to make quick decisions and to find good solutions. Because of varying experience, knowledge, lack of descriptions and a good overview of current standards and requirements, different repair methods may be used and methods, that can provide varying results in terms of quality and cost. The purpose of this task is to try to map both materials, damage, decomposition mechanisms, execution requirements, repair systems, principles and methods, for concrete repairs. The task describes the advantages and disadvantages of the methods used in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. The greatest focus is on mechanical repairs. The task shows that problems regarding concrete repair are generally well known and well described in the literature. The problem is to get a good overview and structure, over current standards, manuals and knowledge of various requirements for concrete repairs. Good knowledge about building materials, concrete damage, decomposition mechanisms, repair methods, construction understanding, and technical requirements are essential to both projecting, project management and contractor, to complete concrete repairs. To get good control of all this, it is necessary to gather important academic literature. This can be a process that requires a lot of internal and external communication, and experience sharing. It is not always easy to implement in practice, and it may take several years for a graduate engineer to complete. This task is somewhat compressed, but shows some of the things that may be necessary for a control engineer, building manager or project manager in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to successfully complete some of his daily tasks in connection with concrete repairs.
