Structural and compositional analysis on silicon-grown, Ga-assisted and heterostructured nanowires, consisting of a GaAs core surrounded by a GaAs_{1-y}Sb_{y} shell was conducted. Here, two samples were studied differing only in the length of time of core growth and in temperature applied during shell growth. The studies were performed using conventional transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. It was found that the different samples result in different overall morphologies, especially those of the nanowire tips. Furthermore, it was found that for all nanowires studied, structure is predominantly of a zincblende phase with a wurtzite segment in the tip region, the length of which varies with nanowire morphology. Zincblende twinning and stacking faults in the wurtzite segment were also observed. A polycrystalline core-shell structure is present only in one sample, where the shell was grown at a lower temperature. The nanowires of this sample are overall more homogeneous. The second sample, with the longer core-growth and higher shell-growth temperature, shows only faint traces of Sb and exhibits no shell structure. Moreover, there is a high variation in nanowire tip-shapes in this sample.nb_NO
