"Båra bere dæ vene vivi frå landi", Muntlig diktning og muntlig tradisjon i Dei to søstrene

Abstract

Oppgaven presenterer og sammenligner de norske variantene av middelalderballaden "Dei to Søstrene" eller "Horpa". De norske variantene plasseres i et internasjonalt perspektiv, også med tanke på den utvidede tradisjonen for motivet "The Singing Bone". Tekstene analyseres ut fra teorier om prosesser som kjennetegner muntlig diktning og muntlig tradering.

This thesis is the result of the comparison and analysis of around 100 Norwegian variants of the ballad "The Two Sisters" ("Horpa" or "Dei to søstrene"). The Norwegian variants are compared to the international variants of this ballad, as well as to other expressions of the motif "The Singing Bone". The variants are subject to an analysis that is based on theories of orality and literacy, and of processes connected to oral poetry and oral transmission.
