This thesis shines a light on the ambiguous role of women on film, using one of the world’s biggest pop culture phenomenons. How are women portrayed in the galaxy far, far away, and why are these representations so important? Has there been a development in the Star Wars universe since Leia in 1977? A feminist reading the seeks to awaken an awareness of the underlying structures of the dominant ideology in society, while trying to be optimistic. This thesis shines a light on the ambiguous role of women on film, using one of the world’s biggest pop culture phenomenons.
