Abstract
This essay is the story about Carte Blanche Dance Company from Jennifer Day started the Company in 1984 in Oslo and up to when they left Oslo in 1989. There is also little about the crises before they moved to Bergen and also when they were in Bergen. There is nearly anything written about this period in Oslo so the essay is built up around intervjues from the dancers that were in the Company at that time. The method that was used in the intervjues was the qualitative method. When the dancers were intervjued they spoke their history from their memories, so it has been difficult to put it together to a story.
In chapter three it’s about the 80 in Norway and the Dance Company that were in Norway at that time. This is for inspiration to write the essay and to get an impression what was going on at that time when Carte Blanche started. There is also a chapter about where you can find material about Carte Blanche today and what is says. There is hardly any material at all written about the period of time in Oslo. Then the history to Carte Blanche from before it began, how it started, the dancers in the company, the performances, the conflicts, the economy, and so on. It is also a chapter about Bergen and how it was for them in the company to move. The story to Carte Blanche today is also in the essay. In the last chapter it’s a summary where I tried to get my thoughts together and put it down on paper.
The thing that was important for all the dancers to tell through the interviews was what a woman Jennifer Day was. The inspiration she gave to everybody around her. What a charisma she had and the gift to see talent early. How important it was for her to bring out the jazz dance to the people.
