dc.description.abstractStokke AS is a Norwegian company that produces furniture for children. One of their products, the Tripp Trapp chair, is a well-known and used product in many households both in Norway and in the rest of the world. An addition to this chair is the Newborn Set, which is a seat that is mounted onto Tripp Trapp to let babies that are not able to sit on their own use the chair. This way the child can be part of the dinner table from day one. When not attached to Tripp Trapp, the seat can be placed onthe floor, and can rock slightly due to the curved bottom surface. In this project, concepts for a base for Newborn are developed to improve its qualities when placed on the floor. The base should allow a steeper sitting angle than 20 degrees to the floor, which is what Newborn has today, and can also provide additional functions such as bouncing, rocking, etc. Stokke has purposely not specified what type of solution they want, in order to let the development processbe as creative as possible. The product should still follow Stokke’s vision and mindset. Many different solutions are presented and evaluated in this report, and they all fall into two main categories: A separate base to place Newborn on, or an integrated base which requires amodification of Newborn. Along the path, a process model adapted to this project has been followed,and techniques from the IPM model at the Department of Engineering Design and Materials have been used. The development process resulted in prototypes of the two most promising concepts. One is arocking chair made in wood, and the other one is a bouncer. The rocking chair is simple and harmonizes well with Tripp Trapp. The bouncer achieves its bouncing from the elasticity in the legs, which are made out of spring steel. Both concepts use the same interface as Tripp Trapp for attachment of Newborn. The prototypes are made in the machine shop at the Department of Engineering Design and Materials. The prototypes are tested and evaluated with a child in it and both seem to work as intended. From this stage on it is up to Stokke whether they want to take one of the products further or not.nb_NO
