In this study, a geological 3D model has been built. The emphasis of the study was to model the sand bodies in the reservoir zone. This was done using the Schlumberger software Petrel. The modeled volume is situated offshore India in the Mumbai Offshore Basin. The model is based on seismic interpretations and well data. The facies modeling has been approached with different methods. Object modeling and stochastic indicator simulation (SIS) have been used to create six and nine facies models respectively. The sand bodies have also been extracted from seismic inversion data. The seismic inversion results show a clear geometry that have been interpreted as channel deposits. The SIS models were made with the seismic inversion data as a secondary attribute in order to honor the geometry of the sand bodies. Individual results did not show a clear geometry but when a filter was applied to all the results, and thus the stochastic noise reduced, the geometry was revealed. Object modeling was used to create six different scenarios with fluvial channels based on the geometry of the sand bodies from seismic inversion. The facies proportions of the SIS and object modeling has been defined by information from well logs. A combination of the seismic inversion and SIS results is considered the best way to model the sand bodies in the reservoir zone regarding both the geometry of the sands and the facies proportions.nb_NO
