In this paper we study the Norwegian NORA project and discuss how and why the services rendered are of value to the participants. For background purposes we begin by looking into topics such as open access and institutional repositories. We then describe the NORA project, its objectives and its progress halfway through the project. Here we also take a look at alternative services to NORA before we discuss how the project adds value for project members and users. Finally we discuss future development of the NORA service.nb_NO
