Abstract
In this valuation, Mowi ASA is analysed, a Norwegian farming company and the world's largest producer of Atlantic salmon with a global market share of 20% (Mowi, 2024). The assignment has investigated why Mowi ASA is valued differently by using objective valuation and comparison of previous analyses.
The assignment is organized with an introduction that presents the purpose and the problem. This is followed by a theoretical part which includes strategic analyzes and an accounting analysis, followed by cash flow forecasting, determination of the total capital's return requirement, and a review of valuation methods, as well as an introduction to the recently introduced basic interest tax. In the results section, the basis from the theory section was used to determine Mowi ASA's value using the DCF method, with WACC as the discount rate. In addition, the multiple method was prepared as a complementary valuation to DCF. The main points from previous analyzes are then presented, and the differences in the analyzes and the reasons for these are discussed in the discussion section.
The conclusion points out that the valuation of a company is a complex and challenging process. The difference in return requirements is highlighted as the most important reason for the divergent valuation of Mowi ASA between the two previous analyses, with a difference of over 1.5%. This is mainly due to differences in the calculation of the cost of debt and the weighting of equity and debt. Furthermore, estimated operating income shows small differences between the analyses, primarily due to currency differences and small variations in the salmon price estimates. The discussion also addresses other disparities, including differences in market-based valuation, weighting methods, and terminal value discounting methods, all of which affect the final valuations.
