framskritt innen maritim logistikk.
autonome maritime transportsystemer.
dc.description.abstract | As autonomous ship technology advances it receives increased global attention
and finding wider adoptions into maritime transportation. The growing interest
in Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and the possibilities they offer for various
applications is intriguing, especially in areas such as cargo transportation. Maritime transportation of goods is pivotal both globally and in local communities
and the automation of this process could come with substantial advancements,
not only in terms of cost savings but also in ensuring safety.
Aiming to uncover the potential, barriers, and limitations of an autonomous
loading and unloading system for USVS, this thesis investigates the development of
such a significant advancement in maritime logistics. To answer this, the study employs prototyping, participatory design, and co-design methodologies. Including
analysis of current relevant USV technologies, followed by the conceptualization
and design of the autonomous system. In addition, incorporate feedback from
stakeholders to ensure that the system developed is applicable in the maritime
sector. The study also benchmarks existing technologies in autonomous loading
and unloading to understand the current state of the art and to derive inspiration
for the proposed system.
Findings include insights into the modularity and flexibility of the loading
and unloading system, the degree of autonomy required, sustainability and efficiency considerations, and the potential business and user cases for the system.
Additionally, technical and operational considerations for autonomous cranes and
automated cargo vehicles, providing specific insights into these solutions.
The study contributes to the field by providing a detailed exploration of the
challenges and opportunities in designing autonomous cargo handling systems for
USVs, highlighting the potential user cases and a framework for the solution. The
research underlines the importance of continuous innovation and user-centered
design in the development of autonomous maritime transportation systems. The
findings indicate that there is an interest among stakeholders and suggest directions for future research and development. Suggesting that additional practical
testing is needed to evaluate the feasibility of each specific solution.
