Treatment results for patients receiving clinically representative therapy in an outpatient psychiatric clinic in Norway

Abstract

Vi har undersøkt behandlingsresultater for behandling av angst og depresjon for pasienter som motar klinisk representativ terapi i et poliklinisk tilbud ved et distriktspsykiatrisk senter. Behandlingsutfall ble målt basert på skårer før og etter behandling på spørreskjemaene Patient Health Questionnaire 9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7, og Work and Social Adjustment Scale. Vi fant en positiv behandlingseffekt for psykoterapi for angst og depresjon, med effekstørrelser d=0.4 for depresjon og d=0.8 for angst. Spørreskjemaskårene ble også brukt til å vurdere behandlingsutfall basert på MCID, der 40% i angstgruppen, og 24% i depresjonsgruppen var i remisjon ved behandlingsslutt. Disse resultatene blir sammenlignet med tidligere funn i litteraturen.

We have examined the treatment results for treatment of anxiety and depression for patients receiving clinically representative therapy in an outpatient psychiatric clinic in Norway. Therapy outcome was determined based on pre- and post treatment scores on the Patient Health Questionnaire 9, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7, and the Work and Social Adjustment Scale. We found a positive treatment effect for psychotherapy for anxiety and depression, with ES=0.4 for depression and ES=0.8 for anxiety. The questionnaire scores were also used to determine treatment outcome based on the minimal clinically important difference, where 40% of patients treated for anxiety recovered, and for those treated for depression, 24% recovered. These results are compared to previous findings in the literature.
