The influence of crystallographic texture on hardening achieved by cyclic loading at room temperature, was tested by comparing samples from an axisymmetric round bar and a flat profile, both made of non-recrystallized, extruded profiles of similar AlMgSi alloys (AA6082). It was found that the plastic strain accumulated during the cyclic loading was significantly (nine times) larger for the flat profile. Tensile testes of the cyclically hardened samples revealed that in spite of the large accumulated plastic strain during cyclic hardening of the flat sample, the local tensile strain at fracture in the necking region was similar to the peak aged conditions obtained by artificial aging.en_US
