Svømme- og livredningsopplæring i grunnskolen. En kvalitativ studie av kroppsøvingslæreres oppfatning og operasjonalisering av svømming og livredning i læreplanen.

Abstract

I denne masteroppgaven undersøkes det hvordan kroppsøvingslærere oppfatter og operasjonaliserer svømming og livredning i læreplanen. Oppgaven skal undersøke følgende problemstilling: «Hvordan blir svømming og livredning i læreplan i kroppsøving oppfattet og operasjonalisert av kroppsøvingslærere i grunnskolen?» For å undersøke problemstillingen er det benyttet semistrukturerte intervju av tre kroppsøvingslærere i grunnskolen. Læreplan i kroppsøving (Kunnskapsdepartementet, 2019) og John Goodlads (1979) læreplanteori har vært det teoretiske rammeverket for studien. I tillegg har Bjørnsruds (2009) læreplanteori og Hiim og Hippes (2006) didaktiske relasjonsmodell vært sentrale i studiens teoretiske forankring.

Resultatene viser at lærerne i studien oppfatter enkelte begreper i kompetansemålene ulikt, men at det likevel synes å være en felles oppfattelse om hva som er formålet med svømme- og livredningsopplæringen. Lærernes fokus er å gjøre elevene trygge i vann fremfor å bli kompetente svømmere. Dette gjenspeiles i operasjonaliseringen av svømme- og livredningsopplæringen, hvor øvelser knyttet til livredning inkluderes i undervisningen tidlig på barneskolen. Resultatene viser også at utendørs svømme- og livredningsopplæring er iverksatt på mellomtrinnet, selv om det ikke er et krav i læreplanen før på ungdomstrinnet. Det viser seg derimot at det krever mye av lærerne å få gjennomført svømme- og livredningsopplæring utendørs, og at lærerne bruker egen fritid på å planlegge gode undervisningsopplegg. Faktorer som tid, samarbeid, kompetanse, skolens beliggenhet og utstyr trekkes frem som utfordringer i operasjonaliseringen av svømme- og livredningsopplæringen.

This master's thesis examines how physical education teachers perceive and operationalize swimming and lifesaving education in primary school, and aims to answer the problem: "How are swimming and lifesaving in the curriculum in physical education perceived and operationalized by physical education teachers in primary school?" To examine the issue, semi-structured interviews were used with three physical education teachers in the primary school. Curriculum in physical education (Kunnskapsdepartementet, 2019) and John Goodlad's (1979) curriculum theory have been the theoretical framework for the study. In addition, Bjørnsrud's (2009) curriculum theory and Hiim and Hippe's (2006) didactic relational model have been central to the study's theoretical foundation.

The results show that the teachers perceive certain terms in the competence goals differently, but that there still seems to be a common understanding of what the purpose of swimming and lifesaving education is. The teachers' focus is to make the students safe in water rather than becoming competent swimmers. This is reflected in the operationalization of swimming and lifesaving education, where exercises related to lifesaving are included in the teaching early in primary school. The results also show that outdoor swimming and lifesaving education is implemented at primary school, even though it is not a requirement in the curriculum until secondary school. It turns out, however, that it requires a lot from the teachers to carry out swimming and lifesaving education outdoors, and that the teachers use their own free time to plan good lessons. Factors such as time, cooperation, expertise, the school's location and equipment are particularly highlighted as crucial for swimming and lifesaving education.
