Han lager engler, han får det til

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven er en kvalitativ kasusstudie som undersøker hvordan tiendeklassinger fortolker og utvikler sine fortolkninger av raplåtene BARAF/FAIRUZ og Historien om Nassor Del 3-Jessie, Cast. Elevenes tolkninger belyses gjennom understrekninger gjort underveis i lytteprosessen, individuelle refleksjonstekster og litterære gruppesamtaler. På denne måten vises elevenes tolkninger og forståelse frem på ulike måter. Studien bygger hovedsakelig på ett teoretisk perspektiv, nemlig Gadamers filosofiske hermeneutikk. De hermeneutiske perspektivene benyttes for å fremheve hvordan elevenes førforståelser preger fortolkningsprosessen, hvordan de beveger seg mellom deler og helhet og hvordan spørsmålene de stiller til låtene er avgjørende for hvordan fortolkningene deres utvikler seg. I sine tolkninger er elevene opptatt av de lyriske jegenes selvfremstillinger, og hvordan deler av låtene kan forstås som samfunnskritikk, og dette knyttes til teori om raplyrikk. Elevenes fortolkninger leder til samtaler om annerledeshet, delte identiteter, kultur, rasisme og hvordan Norge kanskje ikke er et like bra land som mange tror. Gjennom lesing og arbeid med litteratur i norskfaget skal elevene få innblikk i andre menneskers livsbetingelser for å kunne danne seg nye perspektiver på verden. Tolkningsarbeid med BARAF/FAIRUZ legger til rette for refleksjoner som kan lede til kulturforståelse, og gjennom samtalene om denne låten tolker elevene seg frem til at mennesker kan preges av flere kulturer på samme tid. Disse tolkningene forstås i lys av blant annet Bhabhas begrep om the in-between og Saloles begrep krysskulturalitet. Tolkningsarbeid med Historien om Nassor Del 3-Jessie, Cast gir på sin side innblikk i livene til marginaliserte individer. Gjennom den litterære samtalen reflekterer elevene over hvorfor mennesker havner utenfor, gjennom å rette et kritisk blikk mot det norske samfunnet. Min studie fremhever verdien av bruk av raplåter som utgangspunkt for tolkningsarbeid i norskfaget. Elevene skal møte et bredt utvalg tekster, og de skal også møte tekster som kombinerer ulike uttrykksformer. For å skape engasjement og motivasjon i faget er det viktig å arbeide med tekster som tilhører elevenes samtidskultur, og jeg vil argumentere for at denne studien kan vise verdien av dette.

This master thesis is a qualitative case study that examines how tenth graders interpret and develop their interpretations of the rap songs BARAF/FAIRUZ og Historien om Nassor Del 3-Jessie, Cast. Their interpretations are shown through their underlinings done while listening to the songs, recflection texts and literary group conversations. This displays their interpretations and their understandings of the songs in various ways. The study is primarly based on the philosopical hermeneutics of Hans Georg Gadamer. These perspectives are used to highlight how the pupils preconceptions and prejudices influences their interpretations, and how they move between individual parts of the text and the text as a whole. In addition they can also show how the questions they ask to the text and to eachother, are crucial for how their interpretations develop. The pupils interpretations focuses on how the lyrical subject presents itself and how parts of the texts can be understood as social critisism. This is highlighted and analyzed by using rap theory. Their interpretations leads to dialogues about otherness, split identities, culture, rasism and how Norway might not be as great as many people believe. Through reading and working with litterature in the Nowegian subject the pupils should be able to develop new perspectives on how different people live and think. The interpretations of BARAF/FAIRUZ lead to literary conversations about the people in our society who are influeced by multiple cultures at the same time. To analyze these interpretations I apply the theoretical perspectives of Bhabha and Salole about cultural hybridities. Historien om Nassor Del 3-Jessie, Cast offers an insight to the life of humans that are being marginalized in the Norwegian society. Through their literary conversations the pupils reflect on why these people are left out of the society by being critical towards the Norwegian society. My project highlights the value of interpreting rap songs. In the Norwegian subject the pupils shall read and work with a range of different texts. Some of these texts shall also be multimodal, and rap songs are great examples of texts that combine different modes. To motivate and engage the pupils it is important to bring texts that belongs to their contemporary culture, and I will argue that this study can show the value of this.
