Abstract

Sammendrag

Hensikt: Hensikten med denne oppgaven er å belyse hvilke barrierer og holdninger som finnes hos sykepleiere og som gjør samtaler om seksualitet og seksuell helse med pasienter vanskelig. I tillegg til å rette oppmerksomheten på utfordringene i området og øke sykepleieres forståelse for sine egne holdninger og oppfatninger om seksualitet. Problemstilling: Hvilke hindringer og barrierer hos sykepleiere gjør det vanskelig å snakke med pasienter om seksuell helse? Metode: Litteraturstudie inkluderer 8 artikler: to kvantitative, fire kvalitative og to med blande metode artikler. Resultater: Det er flere årsaker som påvirker og hindrer sykepleieres samtaler med pasienter om seksuell helse og seksualitet. Dette er blant annet mangel på kompetanse, tid, private omgivelser, retningslinjer og støtte fra arbeidsplassen. I tillegg uklare rollebeskrivelse og ansvar og sykepleierens holdninger og egenskaper. Konklusjon: Det er viktig at sykepleiere er beviste om hvilke barrierer som finnes og hindrer dem i fra å adressere og ivareta pasientens seksuelle helse og behov. I tillegg er det viktig at sykepleiere utfører sin utøvelse forsvarlig og etter et helhetlig menneskesyn. Nøkkelord: Sexual health, Sexuality, Barriers, Attitudes.

Abstract

Aims: The aim of this study is to shed light on what barriers and attitudes exist within nurses and make it difficult to discuss sexual health and sexuality with patients. In addition to drawing attention to the challenges in the area and to increase nurses' understanding of their own beliefs and perceptions on sexuality. Research question: What obstacles and barriers for nurses makes it difficult to speak with patients about sexual health? Method: Literature study that includes 8 articles: two quantitative, four qualitative and two with mixed methods. Results: There are several reasons that influence and inhibit nurses' conversations with patients about sexual health and sexuality. This includes lack of competence, time, private environment, guidelines and support from the workplace. Furthermore, additional barriers also include unclear job descriptions and responsibility, and nurses attitudes and characteristics. Conclusion: It's important that nurses are aware of what barriers exist and hinder them from addressing and taking care of the patient’s sexual health and needs. Furthermore, it's important that nurses carry nursing care properly and according to a holistic view of humanity. Keywords: Sexual health, Sexuality, Barriers, Attitudes
