Kunstig Intelligens, Kunstig Etikk: En Antropologisk Undersøkelse av Objektfundert Etikk

Abstract

I nyere tid har begrepet «Etisk KI» fått økt oppmerksomhet etter at en rekke eksempler på negative konsekvenser som følge av bruk av kunstig intelligente verktøy har blitt omtalt i både nyhetsmediene og i forskning. Gjennom en undersøkelse av nybrottsarbeidet med å finne ut hvordan denne teknologien skal reguleres for å imøtekomme disse nye problemstillingene søker jeg å vise frem en kulturell logikk, referert til som teknologikken, som jeg argumenterer for at ligger til grunn for de spesifikke strukturene vi bygger opp for å gjøre nettopp dette. Oppgaven følger Heideggers teknologiforståelse, som en måte å tenke om verden på, heller enn som artefakter. Likevel er de tekniske og materielle kvalitetene ved kunstig intelligent teknologi et viktig aspekt i denne oppgaven, nettopp fordi måten teknologien fungerer på i sin tur krever en helt spesifikk måte for objektivering og standardisering av verden for at den skal kunne være en del av teknologiens beregninger. Gjennom problemstillingen «Hvordan kommer teknologikken til uttrykk gjennom arbeidet med å etablere etisk KI og hvordan bidrar den teknologiske avstanden den fordrer til å påvirke våre tanker om det etiske?» viser jeg frem empiriske eksempler på en eksisterende kulturell logikk som preges av teknologiens erobrende vesen. Med dette tilsiktes en observert tendens hvor mennesker i stor grad har begynt å anskue seg selv og verden gjennom en teknologisk linse, hvor den representasjonen av verden som er kompatibel med tekniske systemer blir den rådende verdensoppfatningen. Det er nettopp disse representasjonene som får bli en del av de kunstig intelligente systemene som i større og større grad gjør valg på våre vegne. Andre del av problemstillingen taler dog til hvordan den avstanden som skapes mellom hva noe er og hvordan det representeres i teknologisk øyemed preger våre evner til å gjøre etiske avveininger.

The term “Ethical AI” has recently gained traction after an increasing number of examples regarding negative consequences resulting from the use of artificially intelligent tools have been discussed throughout research and popular media. Through an investigation of the pioneering work of establishing ways to regulate this technology to accommodate for these issues, I seek to show a cultural logic, referred to as a form of techo-logic, which I argue underlies many of the specific structures we put in place to do this. This thesis draws on Heidegger's understanding of technology, as a way of viewing the world, rather than as mere artifacts. Nevertheless, the technical and material qualities of artificially intelligent systems are an important aspect of this task, precisely because the way this particular technology works, in turn requires a very specific way of objectifying and standardizing the world for it to be part of its calculations. Posing the question “How is the techno-logic worldview expressed through the work of establishing ethical AI and how does the technological distance it requires contribute to influencing our thoughts about the ethical?” I present empirical examples of an existing cultural logic that is characterized by the conquering nature of technology. This refers to an observed tendency where people have largely begun to view themselves and the world through a technological lens, where the representation of reality that is compatible with technical systems becomes the prevailing world view. It is precisely these representations that will become part of the artificially intelligent systems that are increasingly making choices on our behalf. The second part of the problem, however, speaks to how the distance that is created between what something is and how it is represented in technological terms, affects our ability to make ethical considerations.
