Litteratur, politikk og autisme Med nedslag i Olaug Nilssens Tung tids tale (2017)

Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven undersøker hva slags kunnskap som produseres om autismediagnosen i kulturelle- og litterære fremstillinger; på hvilken måte dette skjer og på hvilke måter dette fungerer politisk. Artikkelen «Litteratur og politik» av Frederik Tygstrup og Isak Winkel Holm danner det teoretiske grunnlaget for oppgaven med utgangspunkt i Tygstrup og Holm sine begrep om kulturell poetikk og litterær poetikk. Det oppgaven forsøker å belyse, er hvordan skjønnlitteraturen kan fungere politisk, i kraft av at den kan tilby nye vinklinger og innganger til etablerte sannheter og virkelighetsbilder rundt autismediagnosen. Oppgaven gir en generell teoretisk innføring i forholdet mellom den kulturelle- og litterære poetikken, før den videre undersøker hvordan de kulturelle virkelighetsbildene og stereotypene rundt autisme opererer og eksisterer i kulturen. I siste del, ser oppgaven på hvordan skjønnlitteraturen kan være med på å endre de rådende virkelighetsbilder og unyanserte fremstillinger av autisme som eksisterer i kulturen. Her vil romanen Tung tids tale (2017) av Olaug Nilssen brukes som eksempel på hvordan dette skjer. Oppgaven belyser hvordan romanen, i kraft av sin status som skjønnlitteratur, er med på å utvide virkelighetsbilder, nyansere den politiske debatten og gi stemme til språkløshet.

This bachelor thesis examines the type of knowledge produced about the diagnosis of autism in cultural and literary representations; the ways in which this occurs, and how it functions politically. The article "Literature and Politics" by Frederik Tygstrup and Isak Winkel Holm forms the theoretical framework for the thesis, drawing on Tygstrup and Holm's concepts of cultural poetics and literary poetics. The thesis aims to shed light on how literature can function politically by offering new perspectives and insights into established truths and perceptions surrounding the diagnosis of autism. The thesis provides a general theoretical introduction to the relationship between cultural and literary poetics before further investigating how cultural representations and stereotypes of autism operate and exist within culture. In the final part of the thesis, the focus shifts to how literature can contribute to changing prevailing perceptions and simplistic portrayals of autism in culture. The novel "Tung tids tale" (2017) by Olaug Nilssen will be used as an example of how this occurs. The thesis elucidates how the novel, by virtue of its status as fiction, expands perceptions, nuances the political debate, and gives voice to the voiceless.
