Miljøterapeutisk gruppetilbud for ungdommer innenfor barnevernet

Abstract

Noen ungdommer vokser opp under forhold som forutsetter barnevernstjenestens involvering med den hensikt å bistå familien i å få det bedre. Familien og ungdommens utgangspunkt for bistand og veiledning vil variere. Denne bacheloroppgaven tar for seg miljøterapi som hjelpetiltak for ungdom i barnevernet, og skal belyse følgende problemstilling:

Hvordan kan ulike miljøfaktorer påvirke et miljøterapeutisk gruppetilbud for ungdom i barnevernet, og hvordan kan ungdommenes ulike atferd påvirke gruppedynamikken?

Utgangspunktet for oppgavens tema er interesse rundt ungdommers atferd i et fellesskap, nærmere bestemt en miljøterapeutisk gruppe. Oppgaven skal i henhold til problemstillingen sette fokus på ungdommers utfordringer og vansker i lys av deres atferd i en gruppe. Elementer som miljøterapeutens rolle og ungdommens motstandsdyktighet, er blant miljøfaktorene som anses å ha påvirkning på gruppens dynamikk og struktur.

Ved bruk av eksempler fra egen erfaring innen miljøterapeutisk arbeid med ungdommer, samt historier fortalt fra medlemmer av den mye omtalte ungdomsgjengen «Barnevernsbanden», skal oppgaven fokusere på ungdommens atferd og påvirkningskraft på hverandre. Oppgaven presenterer relevant kunnskap om miljøterapi, ungdommer som vil profittere på gruppedeltakelse, risiko- og beskyttelsesfaktorer, samt gruppedynamikk. Videre er oppgavens problemstilling avgrenset til å undersøke ungdommenes påvirkningskraft og innflytelse på andre gruppedeltakere og dynamikken i gruppen. Dette blir diskutert i oppgavens diskusjonskapittel.

Some youth grow up in circumstances where the involvement of child welfare services is necessary to assist the family in improving their situation. The family and youth´s starting point for assistance and guidance will vary. This thesis will focus on milieu therapy as an intervention for youth in child’s welfare services, and will shed light on the following issue:

How can different environmental factors affect a milieu-therapy group, and how can the youth’s different behavior impact the group dynamics?

The basis of this paper is centered around the behavior of youth within a community setting, particularly in a milieu-therapeutic group, and the paper will focus in challenges arising considering their behaviors within such groups. Elements such as the role of the milieu therapist and the resilience of the youth are among the environmental factors that are considered to have an impact in the group dynamic and structure.

Using examples from my own experience working with youth in milieu therapy, along with stories told by members of the highly discussed youth-gang "Barnevernsbanden", the thesis focus on the behavior of the youth and their influence on each other. The paper presents relevant knowledge concerning milieu therapy, youth with the potential to benefit from group participation, risk and protective factors as well as group dynamics. Furthermore, the thesis is limited to examining the youth's impact and influence on other participants within such groups, along with group dynamics. This will be conveyed in the thesis' discussion chapter.
