Omtrent 5 % av befolkningen har betydelig forhøyet verdi av lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)), som er en arvelig betinget risikofaktor for hjerte- og karsykdom. Måling av lipoprotein(a) kan bedre kardiovaskulær risikostratifisering og ha konsekvenser for forebyggende tiltak. Behandlingen er rettet mot en reduksjon av modifiserbare kardiovaskulære risikofaktorer, men Lp(a)-reduserende medikamenter er under utprøving. Denne artikkelen gir en oversikt over håndtering av lipoprotein(a) i klinisk praksis.
