dc.description.abstract
There are major threats to rural areas in Ecuador due to the lack of opportunities for the development of its population. In recent years, community-based tourism has positioned itself as an alternative to combat these challenges. This research begins by identifying factors that helped to identify the impact of these projects in rural areas. The livelihoods theory was used to determine the areas in which the community needs to strengthen its capitals. Following this section, a selection of case studies was carried out. The first one is located in the province of Azuay and the second one in the province of Manabí. After this, methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis of the available information from these projects will be implemented to gather information. In order to analyze in a clearer way the factors involved in these projects. This allowed us to have an approach to the realities of these areas.
