Enablers and Barriers of Lean Six Sigma 4.0

Abstract

Lean Six Sigma 4.0 kan hjelpe bedrifter med å differensiere ytelsen og øke konkurranseevnen, samtidig som de forbereder dem for fremtiden. Formålet med denne studien er å undersøke hva som er mulighetene og hindringene til Lean Six Sigma 4.0. En litteraturgjennomgang ble utført basert på utvalg, analyse og presentasjon av 134 artikler. Scopus®️ og ScienceDirect var hovedplattformene for å søke etter relevante artikler ved å bruke direkte søkeord som "Industry 4.0" OG "Lean Six Sigma". Forfatterne har foretatt en litteraturgjennomgang for å forberede et grunnlag for studien deres og identifisere forskningen som finnes innenfor gjeldende litteratur for å adressere målene deres videre. Et fler- case-studie bidro også til artikkelen ved å analysere to selskaper som står på motsatt side av overgangsprosessen til LSS 4.0, med ett selskap som allerede implementerer LSS-studier og vurderer å integrere med I4.0 og det andre selskapet bruker I4.0-verktøy og sikter mot å ha LSS-metodologier integrert med I4.0-verktøyets applikasjon. Artikkelen har derfor som mål å svare på fremgangen til Lean Six Sigma 4.0-studien de siste 10 årene, hvordan integreringen av Lean Six Sigma-metodologier og I4.0-studier oppfattes av casebedrifter og hva som muliggjør og hindrer for denne overgangen, og til slutt identifisere om muliggjørerne og hindringene som et selskap navngir skiller seg fra det det andre selskaper nevner med hensyn til å ha forskjellig status når det gjelder LSS-metodikk og I4.0-verktøyapplikasjon. Funnene fra studien viste at det ville være stor etterspørsel etter ytterligere forskning på dette området, og det er ikke nok studier på muliggjørerne og barrierene for samspillet mellom LSS og I4.0, og de fleste av publikasjonene som er tilgjengelig bare undersøk disse to områdene separat. Oppgaven tar også for seg og sammenligner muliggjørerne og hindringene for overgangen på to ulike nivå; generelt nivå og kontaktpunktnivå. Resultatene viser at det er en sammenheng mellom muliggjørerne og hindringene identifisert på disse to nivåene og det er en mulighet for at kontaktpunktenes muliggjørere og hindringene kan klassifiseres som generell nivås underkategori. Noen motsetninger mellom det bedriften oppfattet som muliggjører og hindring og det som ble hentet ut av litteraturgjennomgangen. Dessuten ble muliggjørerne og hindringene for de samme integreringspunktene oppfattet annerledes enn de to case-selskapene. Dessuten har begrenset teoretisk forståelse av LSS- og I4.0-begrepene og deres anvendelse av intervjuobjektene ført til utfordringer for studien.

Lean Six Sigma 4.0 can help firms differentiate their performance and increase their competitiveness while also preparing them for the future. The purpose of this research is to investigate the enablers and barriers of Lean Six Sigma 4.0. A literature review was conducted based on the selection, analysis and presentation of 134 papers. Scopus® and ScienceDirect were the main databases for searching relevant papers using direct keywords such as "Industry 4.0" AND "Lean Six Sigma". The authors have conducted a literature review to prepare a foundation for their study and identify the research that exists within the current literature to further address their objectives on. A multiple case study also contributed to the paper by analyzing two companies that stand on the opposite sides of transitioning process of LSS 4.0 with one company already implementing LSS and is considering integrating with I4.0 and the other company utilizing I4.0 tools and is aiming toward having LSS methodologies integrated with I4.0 tools' application. The paper has hence aimed to answer the progress of Lean Six Sigma 4.0 study in the last 10 years, how the integration of Lean Six Sigma methodologies and I4.0 studies is perceived by case companies and what the enablers and barriers of this transition are, and finally identify whether the enablers and barriers that a company names differs from what the other company mentions with regard to having different status in terms of LSS and I4.0 application. The findings of the study showed that there would be a great demand for further research in this area, and there aren't enough studies on the enablers and barriers of the interaction of LSS and I4.0, and most of the publications that are accessible only examine these two areas separately. The paper also addresses and compares the enablers and barriers of the transition at two different levels; general transition level toward either LSS or I4.0 based on which methodology the company is utilizing and contact point level where a point of integration can be perceived for the LSS and I4.0 tool that is actively applied. The results show that there can be a meaningful connection between how enablers and barriers are perceived at the general transitioning process to either I4.0 or LSS, and how enablers and barriers were pointed out while introducing the methodologies that can be integrated with the I4.0 tools and LSS methodologies the companies were actively implementing. limited theoretical grasp of the LSS and I4.0 terms and their application by the interviewees has brought challenges to the study. Moreover, there exist some contradictions between what the company perceives as enabler and barriers and what was extracted from the literature review. Also, the enablers and barriers for the same points of integration were perceived differently from the two case companies.
