Konfrontasjon med det absurde

Abstract

I dette skrivet vil jeg ta for meg problemstillingen om hvordan man bør håndtere konfrontasjonen med det absurde i eksistensen. For dette essayet vil jeg utdype meg i det personlige, eksistensielle aspektet med en slik konfrontasjon, hvor det hovedsakelig vil bli belyst i sammenheng med Albert Camus sitt filosofiske essay «The Myth of Sisyphus». Jeg ønsker å systematisk gå igjennom de tre mulige forslagene på å konfrontere det absurde som blir presentert i «The Myth of Sisyphus»; disse er selvmord, filosofisk selvmord, og opprør. I den første mulige konfrontasjonen som er selvmord, ønsker jeg å trekke inn filosofen Emil Cioran for å gi et mer utdypende og analytisk svar på hvorfor selvmord er bortkastet enn hva som blir tilbudt i «The Myth of Sisyphus» av Camus. I den andre mulige konfrontasjonen ønsker jeg å bekrefte videre slik som Camus gjør, at et «filosofisk selvmord» heller ikke er en etisk riktig løsning, at Kierkegaards «leap of faith» sannelig er et filosofisk selvmord, samt trekke inn Friedrich Nietzsche sin filosofi om herremoral og slavemoral for å støtte poenget om at «filosofisk selvmord» i form av slavemoral er en feilaktig og absurd holdning til livet. Etter dette vil jeg ta for meg «absurdistisk opprør» som den siste og delvis riktige konfrontasjonen, men trekke inn noen endringer i forhold til Camus sin endelige konklusjon; Istedenfor et absurdistisk «liv av kvantitet» vil jeg heller argumentere for et eksistensialistisk «liv av kvalitet», og forsvare hvorfor eksistensialisme i seg selv ikke nødvendigvis er et filosofisk selvmord (Slik som Camus påstår). Jeg vil argumentere for at det ønskelige vil være å kunne bli meta-etisk en absurdist, men etisk en eksistensialist. Videre i å besvare hvordan en bør håndtere en absurd væren ønsker jeg å trekke inn Nietzsche sitt begrep om «Amor fati» (ubetinget kjærlighet til ens skjebne) som et verktøy for å håndtere den absurde eksistensen.

In this paper, I will address the issue of how to deal with the confrontation with the absurd in existence. For this essay, I will delve into the personal, existential aspect of such a confrontation, where it will mainly be elucidated in the context of Albert Camus' philosophical essay "The Myth of Sisyphus". I want to systematically review the three possible suggestions for confronting the absurdity presented in "The Myth of Sisyphus"; these are suicide, philosophical suicide, and rebellion. In the first possible confrontation that is suicide, I want to involve the philosopher Emil Cioran to give a more in-depth and analytical answer to why suicide is wasted than what is offered in "The Myth of Sisyphus" by Camus. In the second possible confrontation, I want to further confirm, as Camus does, that a "philosophical suicide" is not an ethically correct solution either, that Kierkegaard's "leap of faith" is truly a philosophical suicide, and to include Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy of master morality and slave morality to support the point that "philosophical suicide" in the form of slave morality is a wrong and absurd attitude to life. After this, I will consider "absurdist rebellion" as the last and partly correct confrontation, but draw in some changes in relation to Camus' final conclusion; Instead of an absurdist "life of quantity", I would rather argue for an existentialist "life of quality", and defend why existentialism in itself is not necessarily a philosophical suicide (As Camus claims). I would argue that it would be desirable to be able to become meta-ethical an absurdist, but ethically an existentialist. Furthermore, in answering how one should deal with an absurd being, I want to draw on Nietzsche's concept of "Amor fati" (unconditional love for one's destiny) as a tool for dealing with the absurd existence.
