Alternativ bruk av underutnyttede steder til bruk for sosiale og bærekraftige mataktiviteter

Abstract

Dette er en utforskende masteroppgave som vil undersøke muligheter for hvordan underutnyttede steder kan gis et nytt formål til bruk for urbane landbruksaktiviteter.

Verdens byer er i endring og blant annet fortetting og endringer i bruk av bysentre er sentralt - samtidig må byene bli mer bærekraftige og tilrettelegge for et mer miljøvennlig byliv. Å utnytte potensialet knyttet til urbant landbruk kan bidra til å skape hyggelige omgivelser og miljøvennlig (og sosialt bærekraftig) bruk av bysentre. Denne oppgaven har spesielt fokusert på å øke interesse og kunnskap om urban dyrking for å fremme oppmerksomhet om bærekraftig mat, bærekraftige holdninger og øke livskvalitet i byer.

Denne problemstillingen berører flere dimensjoner og forskningsområder - derfor har tilnærmingen til oppgaven innledningsvis vært bred for så å bli snevret ned i flere steg. Det metodologiske fokuset har i de tidligere fasene hovedsakelig vært på design research - først og fremst litteratur og dokumentstudier supplert med intervjuer, observasjoner, deltakelse eller observasjon i digitale møter og webinarer.

Sentrale deler av innsikten som er gjennomført er * bidrag av urbant landbruk - for å spesifisere passende fokuser for konteksten i Norge/Trondheim * kontekstuell analyse - som grunnlag for å foreslå interesseområder (mennesker, type initiativ) for denne konteksten * strategiske initiativer og trender kan gi en indikator på rollen til, og det fremtidige potensiale til, urbant landbruk

Som et eksempel på et konsept/initiativ knyttet til urbant landbruk som kan bidra til forbedret livskvalitet for ungdom i byer, så foreslås jobber knyttet til soppdyrking i første etasjer i bysentere. Jobbinitativet som skal bidra til å forbedre livskvaliteten til ungdom som opplever forskjellige grader av utenforskap, her primært med fokus på arenaen jobb. Det ideelle stadiet til konseptet foreslås 3 år frem i tid, med en implementeringsplan som blant annet innebærer en pilot, og tilhørende anbefalinger for arbeidet med utviklingen av konseptet, dyrkingen, fokus og ungdomsvennlige elementer. Backcasting er brukt for å identifisere muligheter for implementering blant annet knyttet til endringer i reguleringer, økonomisk støtte og oppfatninger rundt bruk av steder.

This is an exploratory master's thesis that will investigate possibilities for how underused spaces can be given a new purpose for use in urban agricultural activities.

The world's cities are changing and, among other things, densification and changes in the use of city centers are happening - and at the same time, the cities must become more sustainable and facilitate a more environmentally friendly city life. Using the potential associated with urban agriculture can help create a pleasant environment and environmentally friendly (and socially sustainable) use of city centers. This thesis has especially focused on increasing interest and knowledge about urban agricultures in order to promote awareness of sustainable food, sustainable attitudes and increase quality of life in cities.

This issue affects several dimensions and research areas - therefore the approach to the thesis has initially been broad and then been narrowed down in several steps. The methodological focus in the early phases has been mainly on design research - primarily literature and document studies supplemented with interviews, observations, participation or observation in digital meetings and webinars.

Central parts are the insight that is performed * contribution of urban agriculture - to specify appropriate focuses for the context in Norway / Trondheim * contextual analysis - as a basis for proposing areas of interest (people, type of initiative) for this context * strategic initiatives and trends can provide an indicator of the role of, and the future potential of, urban agriculture

As an example of a concept / initiative related to urban agriculture that can contribute to improved quality of life for young people in cities, I suggest jobs related to mushroom cultivation on ground floors in city centers. The job initiative will contribute to improving the quality of life of young people who experience different degrees of exclusion, here primarily with a focus on the arena of work. The ideal stage for the concept is proposed 3 years ahead, with an implementation plan such as a pilot, and associated recommendations for the work with the development of the concept, the cultivation, focus and youth-friendly elements. Backcasting has been used to identify opportunities for implementation, among other things related to changes in regulations, financial support and perceptions regarding the use of places.
