In pursuit of getting better and more effective the oil and gas industry is adopting more and more digital tools. This is also essential in the transition of Oil and Gas companies to Energy companies. Project management is an impactful area in the oil and gas industry and can certainly make use of the latest industry 4.0 technologies and tools. The report tends to investigate how these Industry 4.0 technologies can have an impact on project execution models and what essentially is required of the companies to better implement these technologies. The study involved three operator companies from the Norwegian Continental shelf namely Equinor, Aker BP, and Gassco. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to get a deeper understanding related to the improvement of project execution models as well as better integration of new technologies. Industry 4.0 principles were found to be an enabler for improving the project execution models by improving the agility, acceleration, and adaptability of the model. Further, the opportunities and challenges were observed in communication management during projects and it was seen that support from Industry 4.0 technologies had multiple areas to impact. The area of standardization was chosen to be analyzed further and barriers were identified through further interviews and by performing a multi-perspective analysis of the issues relating to standardization.
