Nord-Norge i lærebøker – En diskursanalyse av lærebøker i ungdomsskolen

Abstract

I denne oppgaven har jeg tatt for meg fire lærebøker for samfunnsfag på ungdomstrinnet. Målet med oppgaven har vært å undersøke hvordan Nord-Norge blir fremstilt i de gitte læreverkene gjennom diskursanalyse. Oppgaven vil belyse følgende problemstilling: Hvilke fremstillinger og diskurser finnes det om Nord-Norge i samfunnsfagsbøker for ungdomstrinnet? Lærebokutvalget er to læreverk fra LK20 og to læreverk fra LK06. Disse bøkene er henholdsvis læreverkene Samfunnsfag og Kosmos fra Cappelen Damm, samt Aktør og Nye makt og menneske fra Fagbokforlaget.

Bakgrunnen for denne oppgaven var at jeg på grunn av mitt møte med Trondheim, og andres fordommer til meg som nordlending, ønsket jeg å finne om disse fordommene kunne komme fra grunnskolen. Fra tidligere oppgaver og erfaring visste jeg at læreverk har en viktig rolle i skolen. Derfor ønsket jeg undersøke læreverk i samfunnsfag for å finne ut om hvor mye, og i hvilke sammenhenger Nord-Norge er nevnt i læreverkene.

Studien viser at Nord-Norge var mer representert i læreverkene enn først antatt, og at dette hovedsakelig skjer i sammenheng med undervisning om samer, historie, samfunnet i dag og geografi. Gjennom sammenligning av bøkene viser også studien at det har skjedd endringer mellom LK06 og LK20.

This master’s thesis explores four textbooks for social studies in lower secondary school. The aim of the thesis has been to investigate how Northern Norway is presented in the given textbooks through discourse analysis. The thesis will shed light on the following problem: What presentations and discourses exist about Northern Norway in textbooks for social studies in the lower secondary school? The textbook selection is based on two textbooks from LK20 and two textbooks from LK06. These books are Samfunnsfag and Kosmos from Cappelen Damm, as well as Aktør and Nye makt og menneske from Fagbokforlaget.

The reason behind this thesis came from my meeting with Trondheim, and the prejudice of others to me as a person from Northern Norway, I wanted to find out if these prejudices could come from their schooling. Further, from previous assignments and experience, I knew that the textbooks have an important role in the Norwegian school. Therefore, I wanted to investigate textbooks in social science to find out how much, and in what contexts Northern Norway are mentioned in the books.

The study shows that Northern Norway were more represented in the curricula than I initially thought, and that this mainly takes place in the context of teaching about Sami, history, society today and geography. By comparing the books, the study also shows that there have been changes between LK06 and LK20.
