Aim: The aim of this study is to focus on how patients experience coping after myocardial infarction. Better insight in the patient's thoughts and experiences give conditions for adapted nursing to the individual patient.
Method: Systematic literature study.
Results: Patients react in different ways after myocardial infarction. Increasing the need for information and adapted training is important for coping after myocardial infarction. Social support individually and together in a group increased coping. Many experienced fatigue and reduced physical capacity after myocardial infarction, and many thought activity was frightening. Activity on the cardiac rehabilitation program proves to be positive for coping. It is important that the patient is an active participant in their own process of rehabilitation so the patient quickly can have a better everyday life.
Conclusion: Different theories and points of view provide insight into what promotes coping. With the help of various coping strategies, health professionals can provide better individual nursing care that promotes self-efficacy to the individual. Through information, relationships and high degree of sense of coherence, the patient has good preconditions for coping after a myocardial infarction.
