Sykepleieres erfaringer med å gi terminalomsorg

Abstract

Bakgrunn: De fleste mennesker som dør i Norge, dør på institusjon. Sykepleiere har en sentral rolle i å ivareta de omfattende behovene pasienten har ved livets slutt, samt pårørende. Vi anser dette som krevende på mange måter og lurer på hvilke erfaringer sykepleiere har med terminalomsorg.

Hensikt: Hensikten med studien er å belyse hva sykepleiere erfarer i forbindelse med terminalomsorg. Andre sykepleieres erfaringer kan være nyttig lærdom for egen praksis, og videreutviklingen av terminalomsorg.

Metode: I denne studien har vi gjennomført et systematisk litteratursøk i ulike databaser. Åtte vitenskapelige artikler ble inkludert i studien. Sju artikler er kvalitative, og en artikkel er en blanding mellom kvalitativ og kvantitativ metode. Vi benyttet oss av Evans (2002) metode for å analysere.

Resultat: Fire hovedfunn belyser sykepleierens erfaring med å yte terminalomsorg i institusjon; omsorg for pasienten, ivaretakelse av pårørende, behov for kunnskap og betydningen av tverrfaglig samhandling.

Konklusjon: God terminalomsorg innebærer både omsorg for den døende, og pårørende. Dette gjøres ved hjelp av god kunnskap og tverrfaglig samhandling.

Background: Most deaths in Norway occur within institutions. Nurses play a central role in providing end-of-life care, including meeting all the complex needs these patients and their families may have. We consider this to be demanding in several ways and wonder what experience nurses have with terminal care.

Aim: The aim of this study is to describe the perceptions and experiences of nurses during terminal care. Learning from the experiences of other nurses can be beneficial within their own practice as well as for the development of care for terminal patients.

Method: We have performed a systematic literature study using various databases. Seven qualitative articles were included in the study. Additionally, one article was included that was both quantitative and qualitative. For analysis, we used Evans (2002) analysis model.

Results: Four main findings highlight the experience of the nurses in providing good terminal care within institutions; care for the patient, care for the families, knowledge, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Conclusion: Good terminal care involves both care for the terminal patient as well as their family. This is achieved through good knowledge and interdisciplinary collaboration.
