Abstract
AbstractIn this master thesis, I try to understand how I can create an entrance to sustainability thinking by engaging in the material wool through meetings with the journey the material have from farm to sweater: I have participated in sheep shearing, been given a tour of a spinning mill, learnt how to spin yarn on a spinning wheel, and design a sweater. I knitted this sweater with yarn from the wool that we collected in the sheep shearing and which was spun at the spinning mill I visited. I also read theory that has given me a knowledge base to understand and to analyze my encounters with wool.
Using a difractive analysis, where I have made agent cuts, I have found some materialities in the meeting that create a change, and I have defined them as performative agents. By reading with theory, I see how the encounter with wool creates a connection and understanding of the value of the material. In this I find didactic potential for facilitating deep//learning where students with the whole body get slow and aesthetic experiences that can create a hopeful entrance to sustainability thinking.
