And They Lived Happily Ever After. Or Did They?
Abstract
Nemlig, All`s Well That Ends Well, The Merchant Of Venice og Troilus and Cressida. This project seeks to delve into some of Shakespeare`s plays and examine their “happy endings”. Namely, All`s Well that Ends Well, The Merchant of Venice and Troilus and Cressida. By using scholars such as Risden and Margolis, this thesis tries to figure out what exactly it is that keeps their endings from being happy. Its focus lies in how dark humour and other dark themes together with a consideration of what would happen after the plays affect the overall endings, and if it keeps the plays from achieving a happy resolution.
