The text looks at how sculptor Stinius Fredriksen approached the gothic form, being inspired by both the Reims Cathedral and Nidarosdomens west front sculpture as inspirations. He did this without giving up his own form. Where the inspiration provided the form, he gave the sculpture his own expression. The text also looks at the enthusiasm which Fredriksen showed when speaking about the Reims cathedral. The next part of the text looks at how Vigeland views his own work at Nidarosdomen, together with how other authors wrote about Fredriksen and the sculpture at Nidarosdomen. Brenna credits Fredriksen and his colleague Schiøll for creating the late Norwegian neogothic style. This is not a universally held opinion and we see how Mørstad instead criticize Schiøll and the other sculptors work, saying that they were working with restricting mandates. In the closing parts of the text we see that the sculptors themselves don’t look at the gothic form as a restriction, and that they were able to combine their style in with the gothic.
